The automotive experts over at Car and Driver wrote: “The 2020 Nissan Frontier ... remains a popular and practical work truck. Unlike the full-size Nissan Titan, the Frontier is basically unchanged since it debuted back in 2005. Still, its configurable cargo box and durable interior—not to mention its low starting price—make it extra desirable to contractors and tradesmen. While it lacks high-tech driver assists and many modern infotainment features, the Nissan pickup truck has impressive tow ratings and affordable off-road models.”

Best In Class Powertrain

For 2020, Nissan equips the Frontier with a new engine, a 3.8-liter V6 that develops a best-in-class 310-horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired to a new nine-speed automatic gearbox and either standard rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive. A low-speed, electronically controlled transfer case is available.

According to Nissan, this new V6 is built with 93 percent new parts. It replaces both the previous 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit and the 4.0-liter V6. Maximum towing capacity checks in at around 6,700 pounds, and the 2020 Frontier can haul up to about 1,400 pounds.

The new direct-injection V6 is not only more powerful than the outgoing powerplants it replaces, but it’s also more fuel-efficient. The cylinder heads feature a variable displacement oil pump, integrated exhaust manifolds, a variable tumble control valve and variable timing control. While as of this writing, it’s still too early for official estimates from the EPA, we expect fuel economy to be further enhanced by the new nine-speed automatic transmission, which is believed to be quieter and more efficient.

The 2020 Nissan Frontier gets standard 16-inch steel wheels, while the SV and Pro-4X get 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The Pro-4X gets off-road wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Other standard features include push-button start, a leather shift knob, power door locks and power windows with an auto-down feature, a manual tilt steering column, a backup camera and a new 7.0-inch touchscreen. Rear parking sensors are available.
